Making way for fastening innovation

fischer supports successful infrastructure and tunnel construction projects through multiple products, system solutions and services.

fischer products and services are successfully used in infrastructure and tunnel construction projects worldwide. The range includes custom and project-specific product developments tailored to new build and renovation projects. The company’s long list of rail infrastructure projects includes the new Brenner Base Tunnel between Innsbruck (Austria) and Franzensfeste (Italy), the Grand Paris Express, western Europe’s largest infrastructure project, the construction of Copenhagen’s Cityringen metro line and the new Filder Tunnel, part of the Stuttgart 21 project. 

fischer’s wide range of temporary and permanent fixing and system solutions covers every infrastructure and tunnel construction application. The products have been tested in accordance with European and international standards and have a European Technical Assessment (ETA) as well as a UL certification and ICC approval for the USA, Canada and countries in the Far East. In order to withstand all atmospheric influences and environmental conditions, the products are available in zinc-plated, stainless steel and highly corrosion-resistant steel versions. The products are also assessed and approved for influences such as fire, influences subject to fatigue (dynamic), seismic influences (earthquakes) and impact influences (collisions, explosions).

Fire protection systems, media lines, supply and disposal lines, lighting, ventilation, suspended ceilings, guard rails and crash barriers, traffic lights, signs and much more can be secured with fischer’s solutions. Fixing and installation systems fasten signal technology, overhead contact systems, railings, sound protection panels and other equipment in rail tunnels. One of the examples showcased at InnoTrans includes overhead wiring installation using the fischer FHB II Highbond system, which involves force-controlled expanding FHB II-A anchor rods combined with FHB II-P and FHB II-PF HIGH SPEED resin capsules or the FIS HB 360 S Highbond special mortar. The system solution safely transfers heavy loads into concrete, which requires fewer fastening points and smaller base plates in overhead wiring installation as well as when anchoring cable runs, cable support systems and railings.

Other chemical fixing systems are also used successfully in infrastructure and tunnel construction projects, including the fischer FIS EM Plus injection mortar for anchoring retaining walls to floor slabs, for post-installed rebar connections, for noise barriers or for temporary fastenings. Its three ETAs and ICC approval cover fastenings in concrete in addition to post-installed rebar connections. According to the ETA, the service life of the anchorages ranges from 50 to 100 years. Its wide range of approved applications includes seismic applications, diamond-drilled and water-filled drill holes, fire resistance classes up to R240, dynamics and anchorages in concrete surfaces in accordance with Germany’s water resources law (WHG), confirmed by a general design approval, and much more. Another safe choice for infrastructure and tunnel construction projects is the fischer FIS SB injection mortar for fixing reinforcing bars, guide rails, formwork elements, noise barriers, mounting devices for supply pipes and temporary fastenings. 

Another of fischer’s numerous fixing products for infrastructure and tunnel construction projects is the fischer FNA II nail anchor for fastening noise barrier systems, fire protection cladding and supply lines. The high-performance UltraCut FBS II concrete screws by fischer are also ideal for temporary fixings or multiple applications, such as in formwork construction. Secure electrical installations, supply line and railing fastenings and other tunnel construction applications can be carried out with the fischer FAZ II Plus bolt anchor. 

fischer installation systems are suitable for secure, cost-effective and easy fastenings of all kinds of supply lines. Hot-dip galvanised and stainless steel variants for light to heavy loads cover every application in tunnel construction and other projects. Planners and users can combine the required modular components depending on the construction circumstances and the circumference of the pipes. The fastening expert offers additional system solutions, such as inserts consisting of anchor channels and special t-head bolts. Thanks to their high load-bearing capacity, the systems are also suitable for heavy and demanding applications with the highest loads. The cast-in fixing solutions are adaptable, flexible and make construction projects quicker and easier while preventing damage to the existing concrete construction, for instance through post-installed drill holes. The fischer FireStop range for structural fire protection has a suitable, user-friendly and efficient solution for simple and complex applications in tunnel construction and other projects.

In addition to suitable product solutions, fischer offers an accompanying range of services for infrastructure and tunnel construction projects that range from consultation and design services, approval procedures and training to on-site briefing and installation support. Various engineering services such as calculations, surveys, BIM modelling, CAD and fire protection services are offered. Digital fischer innovations include in-house design software for all relevant products and applications, an extensive BIM service offer and automated construction with the fischer BauBot construction robot. In addition to this, fischer offers series-produced and tailored products with digital features connected to the Internet of Things (IoT), allowing digital inspection and test intervals, for instance, which contributes to the long-term, cost-effective operation of the building. The company thereby supports its customers from the planning and implementation phase through to the project’s successful completion and beyond.
