Robot construction kit with omniwheels

Ultimate robot fun from fischertechnik

1/29/2024

fischertechnik offers particularly innovative robot models with the Smart Robots Max construction kit (299.99 euro) featuring cool robots that can move in any direction. Additional models, such as a dancing robot, can also be built and programmed using the construction kit. The set contains an RX Controller and a new battery holder for six AA batteries. The models are programmed with the ROBO Pro Coding software.

Smart Robots Max provides a glimpse into the future of autonomous vehicles. The RGB gesture sensor recognises gestures in six different directions, measures RGB colour values and ambient brightness and can be used as a proximity sensor, detecting objects at distances of up to 15 centimetres. Together with the IR track sensor and feeler, various thrilling driving robots can be built and programmed, ready to be sent on a voyage of discovery by young, creative minds.

The vehicles are equipped with a wheel concept found in mobile robotics. Omnniwheels, also known as poly wheels, enable space-saving manoeuvring as the driving robots can move sideways or diagonally and turn on the spot.

The dancing robot is another appealing model that can perform fun movements and rotations once it has been set up and programmed.

Before more challenging models such as these are built, beginners can try their hand at simpler designs. The demo model explains the basics, such as how to programme and control the motor and sensor. The motor runs for a predefined period at the touch of a button, while a rotating dial featuring a graphic moves to trigger an optical illusion. Experienced builders can have a go at a mobile robot that can be used to programme various driving tasks.

The new RX Controller is used together with the ROBO Pro Coding software for this purpose. The graphic programming software is compatible with conventional operating systems and can also be accessed via mobile end devices. Some of the many features of the new RX Controller include eight universal inputs and four motor outputs, allowing versatile programming and movements to be carried out. The controller can be easily connected to a PC or mobile end device via USB or Bluetooth.

The construction kit can be used to build and programme nine different robotics models and is suitable for children aged 10 and above.
